University of Miami Society of Women Engineers: Outreach
Each year during E-week, the Society of Women Engineers holds an Outreach event called, “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day”. What once started out as a much smaller event is now the largest outreach event in the school, bringing 150 high school girls from around the area to learn about different fields of engineering. Our team works for five months to put together a fun, educational, and rewarding event to inform these young girls about the core aspects of engineering. The day consists of an introduction from our president along with breakfast, tours of various laboratories, and an engineering related activity, led by one of our SWE volunteers, in which the girls use teamwork, creativity, and basic engineering skills. “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day” is a truly innovative outreach event dedicated to encouraging and inspiring young women into a career in engineering.
